Hi there! Many times I’ll get calls or emails inquiring about a session with a CD of full resolution images. Yes, this is something offer (Simplicity Session). But I always like to talk a bit about what the plan is for those digital files. I have an iphone and I take a ton of snapshot of my children with it. They aren’t the highest quality but the best camera to have is the one that is with you, right? I can’t always carry the Canon 5D Mark ii around. (Although secretly I’d really love to do that!) Not once have I ever printed an image from the phone. Have you? What do you think would be different if I photograph your family and give you a CD of fully re-touched images? Will they sit on a computer hard drive for the next 10 years or worse yet posted to Facebook one time and then forgotten about? Yes, I tell everyone that I can book you into my Simplicity Session and hand over a CD of the images but think about it… if you are hiring me to capture your family’s relationship don’t you want to enjoy seeing those images a bit more often?
Here’s an example. I’ve been lucky enough to photograph this family from the very start of my career as a photographer. We met up in Buffalo to do a newborn session for their second child. It was their second child, Nicholas. We were all thrilled with the results! The boys were fabulous and we captured some more traditional shots as well as fun goofy shots of the oldest, William, who was 3 at the time. Fast forward another 2 years and the family was expecting their third little one and asked me to come over for a newborn & family session. I was THRILLED! Again, we captured some more of the traditional shots but then the fun started! Some of my favorite images were taken at this session and I may even have to do another post on the best of the best…. anyway. What do you think would happen if I handed this young mother of three a CD of images? She is busy. She’s feeding and changing the baby, hauling the boys off to school, music, gym, birthday parties, visiting grandparents, cleaning, washing and cooking. Do you think she’ll have a spare moment to revisit the pictures I took? Probably not. Let’s say she does… she gets them printed at Walgreens. The standard of printing at any pharmacy less then stellar. They may come out dark/light/ yellowish/ blueish. You never really know what your going to get. Would you go to a professional photographer to fill a prescription? Ok, that’s a bit extreme but you get my point. As a professional photographer I have access to the best quality prints around and that will guarantee that your images will be beautiful and protected.
We decided that a wall display in their mudroom was a possible option. I took measurements and came up with a few layout plans…. what do you think? Oh, and that funky brown thing at the bottom is my simple version of a chair…. : ) Every time this mother enters the door she’ll be reminded of the day her first daughter (surprise!) arrived. How much love the older boys had for her, how tiny she was, and maybe even how goofy the boys were at that age. After all, boys will be boys!
